PhotoVoice Brings Artistic Healing
Contra Costa's Office of Consumer Empowerment (OCE) provides a very powerful healing opportunity through PhotoVoice, a 10 week course for mental health consumers that utilizes artistic exploration and expression to encourage healing and recovery while examining mental health stigma, suffering, recovery, self-image, self-esteem, and hope. The course culminates in the PhotoVoice project, a framed piece of art that combines photography with poetry entitled "See Me For Whom I Am." Office of Consumer Empowerment has displayed the art in several galleries and showings, including at a recent special meeting of Contra Costa's Social Inclusion Committee. Hume Center is proud to have hosted PhotoVoice art on its walls and meeting rooms in Contra Costa since 2014 and prouder still to have hosted two PhotoVoice classes.
