Brian Newton, Psy.D., Clinical Information Systems Department Coordinator, attended the American Psychological Association 2014 Conference this year to present this dissertation as posters in two APA divisions. Dr. Newton’s dissertation is entitled “Development and Evaluation of an Online Self-Help Program for Perfectionism Using Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance Concepts,” and involved creating an interactive website for perfectionism, gathering over 1100 registrants, and examining both the effectiveness of the self-help program in reducing perfectionism, as well as users’ behavior and feedback on the site.
Dr. Newton presented a poster entitled “An Online Self-Help Program for Perfectionism Using Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance Concepts” in APA’s Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12), which focused on the combination of using concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Therapy exercises as a self-help tool for perfectionism. He also presented a poster in APA’s Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17) entitled “Development and Evaluation of an Online Self-Help Program for Perfectionism,” which focused on the creation and performance of the website, how users utilized it and users’ qualitative feedback.
